That’s the return date of WYATT!— the engaging, thought-provoking, and scintillating radio show!
WYATT! does a deep dive into those timely and critical issues that impact Gay/SGL (Same-Gender-Loving) men with a diverse set of LGBTQ movers, shakers, and change agents. The podcast is absorbing, informative, provocative…and sprinkled with sly, spicy (and sometimes a wee bit) scandalous humor! The fast-growing podcast airs on both YouTube and Spotify.
This fascinating episode of WYATT! welcomes special guest Mr. Jasun Mark, the award-winning, legendary, and incomparable director, who’s certainly made his definitive and distinctive mark on the adult entertainment industry! (If you’ll forgive the pun.) Mark has worked for an array of big-name, high-end studios, including Titan, Jake Cruise, Fratpad, and CockSureMen.
Currently, Mark is weaving his directorial magic for the hotly anticipated, full-feature film, “Friends in Heat,” produced by the recently established LUXXXE Studios. The brainchild of Mr. J. D. Daniels, LUXXXE already is getting raves and positive buzz throughout the gay adult entertainment industry.
In this exclusive sit-down, the celebrated and well-respected filmmaker and I discuss a broad range of issues. Mark’s breadth of insider knowledge is a testament to his long and storied career. And with an abundance of good cheer, he shares a wealth of engaging, tantalizing stories about the biz.
I kick off the interview by asking him to comment on a quote by Daniel Francis Boyle, the acclaimed British filmmaker/producer: (Slumdog Millionaire, The Beach): “To be a filmmaker, you have to lead. You have to be psychotic in your desire to do something. People always like the easy route. You have to push very hard to get something unusual, something different.” Mark chuckles, “I would agree…but I don’t know about psychotic…that’s kind of a strong word…but I think being a filmmaker requires you to learn how to see things differently, and how to know what is worth looking at and what isn’t worth looking at.” He elaborates further.
Next, we travel through the corridors of time, to uncover Mark’s “origin story.” Born in Connecticut, he resided all over North America, spending the bulk of his childhood in Sackville, a remote farming village in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. Both his parents are quite accomplished talents. “My family moved around a lot because of music and opportunity. My parents have done two albums together; one of them was nominated for best classical recording at the East Coast Music Association awards.” He explains how his mom and dad helped shape him.
So, just what three characteristics best described Mark as a kid—a little nipper? “Oh, man…I was definitely a bit of a loner. I was the obviously gay kid in a pretty rural area in the ‘80s. So, I got bullied a lot for sure.” He expounds on that and gives us the 411 on those other two qualities about which I inquire.
Mark stated that he has always wanted to be a filmmaker. “I eventually found my way into the adult industry in Toronto and found my way down here to California where it’s all being made.”
I mention a comment he made in an interview with the Manhattan Digest. The filmmaker stated, “What I’ve always loved about making porn is that you’re getting people at their most primal and personal.” I ask him to unpack that quote.
According to Mark, Titan Media has “always been the brass ring for me.” He continues. “Oh, man. I’d always been a big fan of Titan. I thought Titan was just amazing! When they started in the ‘90s, they did all these high-end, polished, high-budget, high-concept movies that I thought were just amazing, and I always wanted to work for them. And I finally got my chance.” He goes into just how that experience impacted him.
The director shares how he developed his friendship with the iconic Francois Sagat. Imitating Sagat’s voice, he shared one helluva entertaining story about the porn performer that had me doubling over in continuing guffaws! The director also chats about working with Trenton Ducati and the legendary Joe Gage. Find out why he was so nervous right before starting his first job with Gage.
Mark brings his extensive and storied directorial resume to LUXXXE Studios’ full-feature film, “Friends in Heat,” which drops this Spring. He describes the elements that he believes will make “Friends” a “much see” production. “It’s a lot more narrative than a lot of other adult movies are. Something that people are always asking me or saying is, ‘I wanna see a movie with real story and real characters…and sex’.”
He continues, “A lot of studios don’t wanna do those, but J.D. (Daniels) has decided that he’s gonna go forward with this, and I was excited to be asked to direct.” Mark has much more to say on the topic.
So, what’s it like working with Daniels? “He’s really detail-oriented. A lot of times when I’ve been asked to shoot something, they pretty much just let me walk on and shoot it–without the producer being that involved in what my camera settings are, what my light balance is, and all that sort of thing. J. D. really wanted to know about all of that.” Find out what more he has to say about their collaboration.
Jasun and I get into a penetrating discussion as to how gay porn has evolved during the 20 years he’s been in the game. “The big change is that we took off the condoms,” he states, also relating another significant development.
And the man is B-U-S-Y! He clues us in on the multitude of diverse projects he has on tap for 2022.
So, Yo! You won’t wanna miss this provocative, insightful, and super-sized episode of WYATT!
