Saturday, December 11!
That’s the date for the return engagement of WYATT!— the scintillating, titillating, and thought-provoking radio show!
WYATT! does a deep dive into those timely and critical issues that impact Gay/SGL (Same-Gender-Loving) men with a diverse set of LGBTQ movers, shakers, and change agents. The podcast is absorbing, informative, provocative…and sprinkled with sly, spicy (and sometimes a wee bit) scandalous humor! The rapidly growing podcast airs on both YouTube and Spotify.
The absorbing and affecting CLUBBED, a recent release, has been very well received, scoring raves from influential reviewers– including Good Reads and MM BookWormReviews.
In CLUBBED, Mr. Karl paints a colorful, vibrant portrait of pre-AIDS LGBTQ culture. The reader becomes a “fly on the wall,” observing first-hand all the goings-on. This tome draws you in, keeps you engaged—and grips you tightly!
Indeed, Karl’s first effort is exceptional! His prose is relaxed, conversational– and full of delicious angst and dramatic tension. First of a three-part series, CLUBBED portrays the diversity and nuances within the LGBTQ Community of the time. The sequel drops in 2022!
A Pennsylvania native, Karl now resides in Puerto Rico. He’s been quite the “overachiever”: earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in psychology from Penn State University, a teaching certification, and a Master of Education (M.Ed) from Temple University. Additionally, Robert has a principal’s certificate and certifications in educational technology. For 30 years, he was employed by the School District of Philadelphia.
In our WYATT! sit-down, Karl states that writing CLUBBED was a “profound experience, a feeling like none other.”
He continues. “I’m going to say CLUBBED is about sex, drugs, lust, courage, loyalty, betrayal, drag divas, hustlers, porn, go-go boys! Anything is possible in the gay club scene–even love.”
Laughing heartily–and naughtily–he adds, “Notice I started with sex, drugs, lust, and then it goes on…”
Robert states that writing CLUBBED was cathartic. “It was an amazing experience! What gave me the motivation to do it was being in quarantine during the pandemic. I’d been thinking about these stories for years. I hadn’t written them down but always thought about them. And then, I had all this time.”
“I wanted to tell diverse stories; so, I came up with this idea that everybody at the club has a story, and every story deserves to be told.”
We discuss the necessity of truth in writing, and how the author must infuse authenticity in their work. Truth to an author should be like the blood that flows through your veins. As well, Robert provides indispensable advice on promotion and marketing to aspiring/new authors.
I ask Mr. Karl to give us a compelling reason to grab our copies of CLUBBED: A Story of Gay Love—Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs. His response?
“I want to encourage people to read CLUBBED because I want you to know how LGBTQ life was (before AIDS),” he begins. “ I guarantee you that these stories are authentic, real. I believe they are joyful, and this book will make you both laugh and cry.
“You may be a child of the 21st century, but I want you to know something about the 20th century that maybe—just maybe–you didn’t know before.”
And there’s so much more to look forward to in this captivating, informative, and (always!) uber-entertaining episode of WYATT!
Simply put, WYATT! is “Eargasm For Tha Grown Folks!”
